Electric-powered vehicles aren’t oddities anymore. Powerful, reliable, durable, and fast, motorized vehicles fueled by silent and emission-free electricity are changing the face of law enforcement and medical response in applications across the United States and around the world.

Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc. (EVT), a pioneering manufacturer of next-generation electric-powered personal transportation, is leading the charge with its new Elite Government Series hybrid electric bicycles. On display for the first time at the GOVSEC® 2003 Government Security Expo and Conference in Washington DC, the Elite Government Series can improve response time, enhance community policing efforts, and reduce patrol costs for public safety forces at all levels.

“Today’s breeds of electric-powered bicycles are more than just practical; they create new opportunities for enforcement and service,” said David Haskell, Vice President and General Manager of Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc. “Our environmentally-friendly bikes have proven their ability to ‘draw in’ the public and make officers approachable. Yet unlike traditional pedal-only bikes, hybrid electric bikes can also travel up to 25 mph, instantly putting safety personnel in the middle of action when seconds count.”

“We find that our bike patrol officers can move into position quickly when needed with less physical exertion,” said Lt. Ray Arcuri, bike patrol commander for the Westlake, Ohio Police Department. “Our EVT electric bicycles are in regular use. They have proven their worth not only for their reliability, but also for the way they help us connect with the public.”

Law Enforcement, Medical Models The Advantage RX70, a high-performance, fully-featured product, is for police, border patrol, and other law enforcement use; the Survivor MD70 is specifically designed for the needs of Emergency Medical Services and other quick-response medical personnel.

Both bikes supplement pedal power with EVT’s patented, maintenance-free DC direct drive motor that carries an individual 30 miles at speeds up to 25 mph before recharging is needed. The 750-watt motor and 36-volt Nickel Metal Hydride power pack fit unobtrusively between the seat post and rear wheel; information displays, cruise control, an electronic theft deterrent system and more are mounted on the handlebars of the bike’s custom designed, full-suspension frame.

“In the past, most electric bicycle manufacturers have simply bolted a motor onto a conventional bike. We engineered the Elite Government Series from the ground up to maximize both pedal and electric motor efficiency,” states Ryan Adelman, Manager of Commercial Sales & Marketing for EVT. “In suspension, instrumentation, performance, and optional equipment, EVT’s Elite Government Series are the ‘Land Rovers’ of the electric bike industry.”
